GK:Such thing as too much hydroguard???

well.... i thin i fixed it. I had some light leaks..I was just wandering if algea was bad. I clean daily...seems like my area is highly prone to fungus and algea. I live in the esert and any moisture at all causes a lot of problems.
I will post pics tomorrow if it spreads ( i have removed for third time leaves with spots) thanks for keeping this thread alive btw cause i was gettin frustrated

    INoxia.. HI!

algae on top is very common for many growers and really is no big deal.. many growers try to do everything they can to stop it... but is no big deal.. there are even growers who have algae all over their roots... I personally would not tolerate it on the roots.. the only problem with algae is it takes oxygen from the water that should be going to you plants..

so if the algae is just on top (not in the water/reservoir), then it is no big deal..

the real problem is lack of O2 for your plants... this can cause root rot.... is your reservoir water also at 80+ degrees....? try to keep your reservoir at 70-75 degrees.. 80 is to hot..

    O2 is everything..

algae is different than fungus or mold.. fungus and mold can not be tolerated at all!!!!!!!!!!

Alga in a grow is NOT GOOD at any time any place. It's a minor problem yes but a problem is still a problem and should be corrected. It's an early sign of other problems that have not showed them self yet. It should be corrected as soon as it's noticed. The source should be found and corrected. Sometime it's as easy as sand on top of your soil to keep the light out. Or in hydro we use net pot covers until the leafs are large enough to cover the grow rocks.

GK you are the one who was complaining in the lounge about information not being correct.

Just thought I would correct some minor miss-information.

    LADIES and Gentleman...

a pond in my local neighborhood had so much algae in it that it consumed nearly all the 02 and many fished died... they took the algae out of the pond with fish nets and the fish are doing better... the algae will come back..

they will need to do regular maintanance to keep the algae under control..

I would reccomend you add H202 to your water and consider getting air stones for your reservoir... and of course, keep algae out of your reservoir..

or your plants will end up like the FISH in my HOOD..
