Ban Rock Concerts and Football Games?

DES MOINES â?? An Iowa sheriffâ??s decision to hand out tickets instead of arrests for small amounts of marijuana invited a lawmakerâ??s slap that it would be simpler to ban rock concerts and football games.

Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek, who oversees the University of Iowa in Iowa City, told a legislative committee he would treat possession of small amounts of marijuana like a traffic violation, allowing hundreds of students arrested each year to graduate without a criminal record.

â??The guy thatâ??s carrying 50 bales of marijuana â?¦ thatâ??s a different animal,â?� Pulkrabek said, adding he favored rounding up intoxicated people in a locked â??detox centerâ?� in lieu of the crowded jail.

But Republican legislator Clel Baudler, a former state trooper, shot down the notion as sending the wrong message to drug users and abusers.

â??We could simplify law enforcementâ??s job if we didnâ??t have rock concerts. We could simplify their job a lot quicker if we just didnâ??t have football games there where we arrest hundreds of drunks over the weekend.â?� Baudler said.

if they even attempted to ban football games their would be mass riots in iowa city i guarentee it. and same goes for rock concerts that all we have is rock concerts and football. wtf else is there to do in iowa except smoke weed?

Hope ya don't mind that I copied this to activism also! Good read. I lived in the Quad Cities for 11 years...kind of miss it in a way.

The end result on this wasn't that good but the fact that the Sheriff wanted to take that stance is encouraging.

i got lots of family in the quad cities im actually thinkin about moving there. cause iowa city kinda sucks

here is some more iowa news this is a lil more recent. its refering to an article in the des moines register in april of this year that stated that "todays marijuana is 10 times more potent than it was 30 years ago"

Sounds like legislator Clel Baudler needs a new job. Anyone there check out his political opposition? Anyone send him a letter saying why they are voting for someone else besides him because of his stance on this issue?

You guys have taken it out of context

The Republican was saying the Democrats idea was hogwosh(not arresting people with small ammounts), reason why he referred to it as Making the police jobs easier(we could do it, were just not gona do it). he was only using the Get rid of Games/Concerts as a comparison..

Another way of saying it..Say it was Car Emissions instead of Pot, the 2nd guy coulda said, We Could just get rid of Cars

Or maybe Pigs...er cops can leave college kids alone who have small amounts for personal use and actually help the city by going after the criminals such as murderers and rapist
