At the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art they have a bunch of sugar maple trees growing upside down suspended from a cable in planters 20 feet off the ground- it's like the coolest thing ever.

However, unless you want your plants upside down for artistic reasons you are just complicating things unneccessarily.
