The only difference is the traits of the strain.

seven vs. nine????
as each set of nodes produces fan leaves... they get larger and often increase in number of seraded leaves... all plants have the potential of 7,9, and 11 etc seraded leaves... I have never seen a plant that is limited to only 7 leaves.. plants only get limited by age, size and health...

It doesnt really mean anything at all.
Sativa will normally have more fingers. My lowryder only ever got 5 fingers, while my indian skunk got up to 9 fingers.
I also think it's something to do with light intensity, cos when i fist started growing, the plant only ever had 3 serated leaves, all the way up, but the next time i grew the same strain i got 7... And it think its because the second time i used better lighting.

I've noticed a big differnce in leaf shape and size depending on the light.

and if you've ever tried regenerating plants or brought back plants that were heavily shocked you probably noticed they grow single leaves for a while, then sets of 3, then 5, etc. until fully recovered, about 4-6 weeks later.
