spider mites

I have had spider mites on my plants. I went to my local garden centre, which I use alot, and asked the best method for removing them. Being frank I told the guy that it was a crop I would be ingesting at a later date. He told me not to waste money on expensive treatments and to spray the plants with window cleaner. He gave me the left overs of one of the bottles they use at the store, I spayed it on my plants and it has wiped my little friends out!

Anyone else got any thoughts on this? or any other novel methods of pest control?

Window cleaner aye? Soaps have always been good but thats a newy to me!
Chilli and lemon.
1 cup chillis roughly chopped and soaked in boiled water o/nite. strain and add 1 lemon squeezed and top up spray bottle (500ml).
works for me. not very novel though...
