    Stupid questions for the experts

Ok, so this has probably been asked before...

I would like to grow just basically one plant in my closet for personal use, what is the minimum setup and cheapest way to do this? Also, is it going to smell like a motherfucker and stink up my whole closet.

    Thanks

I'll take this opp. to plug my post on my cab. Its in my signature.

Its a small little 150, simple soil cab -- good genetics, good care, and some good nutes is all ya need. K.I.S.S. method

I yeild aproz 2-3oz (i dont weigh - safty reason... no scales no nada + i dont even know = no intent to distribute) and I honestly grow better than Ive ever bought in 12 yrs smoking. Its such good quality 2-3 is all you really need if its JUST you smoking it... and I'm :stoned: damn near 24/7. Its a atate of mind :smokin:

for light i would go with cfls, very cheap compared to HIDs, and for a less smelly strain, Northenlights is not really smelly, i have a couple plants and can hardley notice them, they are easy to grow and have a pretty good yeild, Lowridier is also a less smelly strain that will finish in about 60-70 days from sprouting. good luck

oh also, if your just going to grow one plant you might want to think about getting feminized or female seeds.....it would suck to spend a bunch of time on your plant to find out its a male in the end.....good luck

    How big is your closet?

I've yielded literally 17oz off of ONE PLANT ina closet.

I ran it in an earthbox under 1 1000W MH light.

    http://earthbox.com/

I didn't use a screen either. I just vegged for about 30 days, topping everything in sight to keep all the branches of qual height... then I threw her into floweing.

    Here's a cost breakdown:

    - Earthbox = $60
    - 1000W MH = $335 (with cool tube hood)
    - 2 465 CFM Dayton Blowers = $200
    - Organic Nutrients/Soil = $80

    total = $675

Now, if you can't pull a pound out of that in 110-120 days... you shouldn't be growing.

$675 for $3200-$4500 worth of grass ain't bad.

For one plant you would want a space at least 18" x 18", but a little bigger would be better.

The minimum set up would be dirt, a watering can and some fertilizer, a couple of small flouros for the lights, and a small computer fan or something to provide a little air flow. I suppose with a little digging this stuff could cost you from 0 to 40 dollars.

The minimum set up to reduce odor would be to grow some weed that is not very potent. The next choice would be to buy some cheap odor control that you just set in your room (like a jar of odor eating stuff they make for this). The next step up is to buy an air purifyer like Ionic Breeze. The next step after that is the right one, and that is to buy a carbon filter. I suppose you could also look into ozone generators and stuff like that, but that wouldn't be the minimum set up. I don't know how important stealth is to you, but if you don't do something, and you grow decent weed, people will smell it when it starts to bloom.

That said, I would not consider setting up a grow area the minimal way. I have done it and it was just a waste of time. Your plant will grow and you will get weed. Unless you just like horticulture though, I would save your money until you can get or make a cheap hydro set up and HID light similar to this:

cheapo DWC (deep water culture) hydro set up: $15
home made 150 watt HID light: $35
    ventalation: $50
nutrients, PH up or down, PH pen: $50
sweet, beautiful weed that you nurtured yourself: priceless

Growing with flouros is a waste of effort unless you use a shitload of them.

Oh yeah, and one of my favorite things I have ever heard anyone say in this forum is from Zandor, moderator and evidentally the all-being, master of time space and dimension:

If you go cheap you'll grow cheap.

    I couldn't agree more.

Holy crap. I didn't see that the first read. That's awesome. I recently switched to a new grow style and am figureing it out, but my first yield was 7 oz under one 600 watt. That's from 6 plants.

included, you rock. Teach me oh great one.

Check out that Earthbox link I sent.

    Those things are insane.

I've seen 15 foot tall plants growing out of them in greenhouses, and I've seen 10 SOG style plants in one in a closet.

My Earthbox monster was a Super Silver Haze x Northern Lights #5. I put it in a mixture of 3 parts light warrior, one part ocean forest.

I fed it Age Old Organics Grow along with Dark Energy for veg... and then Age Old Bloom and Dr. Hornby's Big Bud for flower.... I also put this rainbow mix stuff in the soil... I forgot what it was called, it was in a red bag.

The plant was ENORMOUS. I wish I had pictures... but I didn't have a digital then (and I was considerably more paranoid).

Hey included do you think it'd be possible to grow more than one plant in one of those boxes? Like by putting a divider in the middle or would that screw up how the whole thing works?
