Hey, Cameron. Sorry to hear you're depressed. Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

The rough thing about Zoloft and the other SSRIs like it is that they don't really work immediately on depression. It takes them a couple of weeks at least. So three individual pills won't really help. If you're a candidate for the medicine, you'd need three weeks' worth. Three pills might give you some side-effects--and they might make you believe you feel better. But they really won't do anything to help depression long-term till most folks have taken them for longer.

If you're a teenager, dosing probably works a little differently than it does for adults. I know most docs start adults out on what's considered a low dose of SSRI antidepressants, then raise it after, oh, five to seven days (maybe sooner if they think someone's really sick with depression). So you have a week or maybe two before you're up to a full dose.

Getting medicine for depression is fairly easy if you can talk to your parents and get to your doctor--and if you can find a doctor who is OK with prescribing these drugs for young people, which is controversial in some circles. Most docs have sample and starter packs they can put people on right away so they can get started--and also see if they think the drug works--before they ever fill a prescription. If you're younger than 18, can you talk to your parents and then get to the doctor?

Hope you feel better soon. Depression is the worst. I've had it before, and I think I may have a touch of it again right now, too, or at least be building up to it. Paxil was the drug that helped me once before. I didn't like the side effects, but it did make my mood better.
