petitions, how effective?
I'd like to start a petition here in Florida to decriminalize, how effective does everybody think petitions are? I'm just looking for some feedback. Thanks all

Check with NORML, MPP and SAFER websites. They will provide you with all the info you need.
You will have to put it to a referendum, however. A petition will get you nowhere fast. As a referendum of the people the government has no choice but to enact the peoples will. It is a safety valve built into our government for people to bypass our elected representatives for issues that we feel are too important to be left to them and that we feel should go to direct vote. All we would need is enough signatures and it goes to ballot.
I live in Florida so let me know if you do anything with it.

Shoring up support is vital:thumbsup: We show others that we are not the savage drug addicts that we are made out to be by those in power.
Keep us informed on your progress. Newactivist has a good idea. Check with NORML, MPP, etc etc and get seek some guidance.

write your state represenitives.
and incourage others to do the same. the 11 states that have Med MJ laws and have had the weed decriminalized had this done by a grass roots activism by people just like U!
And in November, VOTE! and vote for the candidates that support what U want.
the democratic process only works for those who participate... we can win!

Unless stoners really are lazy it cant be that effective when it comes to marijuana because i'm pretty sure some one has thought of this before but yet I have never heard of this happening

petitions, how effective?
petitions DO work, IF the recipient gets enough of them, AND the signatures are legitimate names of REGISTERED VOTERS ... nobody gives a shit about a petition signed by lazy-ass stoners too irresponsible to register and VOTE ... I always include a "registered voter" tag, to my name, when sending mail to politicians regarding MJ ... 'they' have my name, address, phone number, etc. on file, anytime they want it ... fuck paranoia ... voters that contribute $$$ or volunteer time to political campaigns carry the most weight ... why would a politician help stoners too lazy to vote for him, when he is getting thousands of dollars from big corporations and groups organized to oppose MJ legalization, etc. ?? ... when WE outnumber THEM, is the only situation for real change ... :smokin:

On this issue they will ignore any petition. The only way to make it stick is to force them to through voter referendum.
I was watching a show from the History channel showing a lot of people during the 70's trying petitions and whatnot to change our marijuana policies. If I'm not mistaken it also showed an interview with the founder of MPP as well. They were making the exact same arguements we are today and you know what? Here we are today with the same problem, still spinning our wheels. The only positive results have been through MPP, NORML and Safer taking it to the voters. Support them, don't waste effort reinventing the wheel.
It has to go to a referendum. Anything else is a breath wasted when it could have at least held smoke.
Peace.
