Hey, WayoftheLeaf, seriously, is there any way that, if you're determined to have bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, you might consider lap banding instead? For a young person, especially, it's much less invasive--and it's not as permanent as having the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. It's also now proven to be equally successful to gastric bypass in helping folks lose weight. Dro Princess has given you an example of gastic bypass complications that aren't pretty, and there are many more where that came from. The rate of complications for that surgery is much higher than what is standardly provided by doctors, and when those complications occur, they're very rough, as Dro P has given you an example of.

I was lucky to have survived that experience (they put me in a medically induced coma for that, too, Dro P), and I've had several rearranging/cleanout surgeries since then. As a result of the scarring and re-sectioning of my gut, I no longer absorb food or nutrients like others do, and I can tell that this affects my overall body chemistry in a big way. Former Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients report the same sorts of problems, in their cases particularly iron, B12 and calcium deficiencies, some very severe.
Anyway, WayoftheLeaf, give the lap banding procedure some thought, too, if you're determined to do surgery, and have your parents read about the risks/complications of both types of procedures before you sign up for the bypass. Good luck to you!

All the fat-hate in this thread is horrible.
As a fat person, i'm pretty happy with the way I look, and so is my mate. I work a full time job where im on my feet, and I'm a very active person. Not everyone who is fat is fat because they're sitting on their ass eating bon-bons.
Why can't we just fucking respect each other, and not give a shit about weight? Jesus christ people, honestly, hate does nothing, especially if you're trying to convince someone to loose weight. They've already been hated on enough, and being called "fat slobs" is only going to make them feel worse and eat more.Every man has inside himself a parasitic being who is acting not at all to his advantage

The only stoner-specific advice I'm going to give is get all the unhealthy finger food out of your house and out of your life so it isn't there when your will is weakend by the munchies. Pickles and olives and grapes are where it's at. Not that olives are low fat, but they are still good for you. Same with pistachios... fiber=good... taking off the shells takes forever so it's tough to overindulge.
All the rest of the being healthy shit should be pretty obvious to you already.
