Any of you "oldsters" remember this SNL?

I was arguing with my husband tonight about an old Saturday Night Live skit that I remember from the late 70s which he says I dreamed or am making up.

In the skit, Dan Ackroyd was impersonating Jimmy Carter and he and some other guy were on some type of political television or radio panel and were taking call-in questions on various matters. I think one of the callers had taken some acid and was freaking out, and Dan Ackroyd's Jimmy Carter advised him like he was a cool, drug-experienced dude.

Does anyone else remember that? Or did I just dream this? I remember the skit as being hysterically funny, but now I'm doubting whether or not it really was on TV.

ahmmm....I can't say I remember that one, and I watched a lot of SNL, back in the day. I can remebmer Chevy Chase playing Gerald Ford.....tripping all over himselt, falling down the stairs on Air Force ONe.

Yep, it happened.
I don't remember who the caller was, but I def remember Ackroyd acting as Carter and seeming all calm, cool & hip as he handled the caller who was on a bad trip.

The caller may have been Bill Murray or Garrett Morris...it was nearly 30 years ago!!

Oh, wow! Thanks, guys. I was certain I didn't dream that, and yet. . . .

This is great, Pastor, to have the link you included. Now I can PROVE it did exist. What a funny bunch of folks that early cast was, and I cannot believe that that skit's nearly 30 years old, but it is. Thanks for helping settle this disagreement!

I liked the Eddie Murphy years, when I was younger. It was around the same time, but, I'd, mostly, watch the skits with him in it. As I grew up, I developed an affinity to Steve Martin, through movies, and liked to watch old skits from his Saturday Night Live period.

Steve Martin is an amazingly talented guy. He plays the banjo, which is difficult as heck, like a prodigy. Write books. Short stories. Screen plays. Stage plays. Acts in serious roles as well as comic ones. Does unbeatable stand-up comedy. Has a magnificent art collection. He's just this amazing Renaissance man. He joins Richard Gere on the list of men I'd leave my husband for. . . .

I remember that one. Dan Ackroyd was Carter and this one guy called in about his telephone or answering machine, some really hard question about the circuit board. And Carter was like you need to rotate the thingy at 24.3 degrees to the left.

Or something like that; it was funny, that's all I know

i am only 19, and i would choose the older episodes of snl over the newer ones anyday. i have alot of the older ones on dvd and stuff i get from like best buy for cheap. steve martin is great, very talented indeed. but you cannot forget late 80's early 90's with sandler, david spade, and ofcourse chris rock.
