??We see America not falling behind, but moving ahead; our
citizens not fearful and divided, but confident and united by
    shared values of ?
??? faith, family, work, neighborhood, peace and
    freedom.?
-Remarks at the Annual Conservative Political Action Conference Dinner

    What is a Reagan Conservative?

??The basis of those ideals and principles is a commitment to freedom and personal liberty that,
itself, is grounded in the much deeper realization that freedom prospers only where the blessings
of God are avidly sought and humbly accepted.
??The American experiment in democracy rests on this insight. Its discovery was the great
triumph of our Founding Fathers, voiced by William Penn when he said: "If we will not be
governed by God, we must be governed by tyrants." Explaining the inalienable rights of men,
Jefferson said, "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time." And it was George
Washington who said that "of all the disposition and habits which lead to political prosperity,
religion and morality are indispensable supporters."
??And finally, that shrewdest of all observers of American democracy, Alexis de Tocqueville, put it
eloquently after he had gone on a search for the secret of America's greatness and genius - and
he said: "Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with
righteousness did I understand the greatness and the genius of America . . . America is good.
And if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.?

    Faith Principles
    - The American system requires a religious and moral
    citizenry to function.
    - When Americans support liberty and oppose tyranny,
we are doing what God wants us to do.

??Attitudes toward work are formed in the family. Families which teach that effort results in gain
prepare skilled and energetic workers who are the engine for democratic capitalism. In contrast,
if children are taught that effort is to no avail--that "the deck is stacked"--nothing is more likely to
undercut achievement. Without employees, investors, and entrepreneurs nurtured in families
and instilled with the work ethic, democratic capitalism fails.?
    - From the 1986 Reagan administration report
    ??The Family: Preserving America??s Future?
??We must revise or replace programs enacted in the name of compassion that degrade the
moral worth of work, encourage family breakups, and drive entire communities into a bleak and
    heartless dependency.?

    Family Principles
    - The family provides an indispensable teaching
    environment.
    - The family has the unique ability to instill the values
necessary for democratic capitalism to survive.

??We who live in free market societies believe that growth, prosperity and ultimately human
fulfillment, are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human
spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in
deciding economic policies and benefiting from their success -- only then can societies remain
economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. Trust the people. This is the one irrefutable
lesson of the entire postwar period contradicting the notion that rigid government controls are
    essential to economic development.?
-Remarks at the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the
World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund
    September 29, 1981
??If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what's at stake. We are faced with the most
evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no
security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United
States. Those who ask us to trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are
architects of a policy of accommodation.?

Work Principles- Economic prosperity comes from people through their
    work and imagination, not government.

    ??Together, let us make this a new beginning. Let us make a commitment to care for the needy;
to teach our children the values and the virtues handed down to us by our families; to have the
courage to defend those values and the willingness to sacrifice for them. Let us pledge to
restore, in our time, the American spirit of voluntary service, of cooperation, of private and
community initiative; a spirit that flows like a deep and mighty river through the history of our
    nation.?
    -Republican Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech

??The size of the federal budget is not an appropriate barometer of social conscience or

    Neighborhood Principles
    - Individuals, organizations, and communities have a
moral responsibility to support those in need and can
do a better job than the federal government.

??It was leadership here at home that gave us strong American influence abroad, and the collapse
of imperial Communism. Great nations have responsibilities to lead, and we should always be
cautious of those who would lower our profile, because they might just wind up lowering our flag.?

??We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may

    Peace Principles
    - Defending liberty requires a two-front war, against both
    appeasers and tyrants.
    - To maintain peace and expand freedom, America??s
enemies must understand that we are ready, willing,
and able to use overwhelming and superior force.

??Rather than Communists and Marxists on the extreme ??Left?? and Nazis and Fascists on the
extreme ??Right,?? I think the political spectrum should be ??Up?? and ??Down?? ?? Up towards individual
freedom and Down towards control of the individual by the State. The extreme Up would be
Anarchy, no government at all, while the extreme Down, at the bottom of the spectrum, would be
all forms of totalitarianism: both Fascism and Communism, Nazism and Marxism, which together
in common advocate the abolishment of individual freedom. On this spectrum, I place myself on
the Up side, not an anarchist, but as an advocate of individual liberty in accordance with a
constitutional democracy and rule of law.?
    - Address at UCLA Student Union, October, 1965
??Let us be aware that while they [Soviet rulers] preach the supremacy of the state, declare its
omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination of all peoples on the earth,
they are the focus of evil in the modern world. I urge you to beware the temptation ... to ignore the
facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire, to simply call the arms race a giant
misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong and
    good and evil.?

    So...
What is the purpose of this post? To discuss Reagan or conservatism? Perhaps, just to piss off the liberals?

As for President Ronald Reagan being the GREATEST President of modern time, that may be true (I'd say "one of the greatest of all time") but that was still almost 20 years ago, long before most of the members here were alive.

Some of the sub-subjects are obviously true and others are debatable and/or subjective, which leads me to wonder why the author used such tactics.

Well it's a little more complicated than just that then and it wasn't *all* good with President Reagan either but nobody is perfect. He's still one of the best Presidents.

They don't hate President Bush because that's all they've known, they hate him because children tend to be liberals due to their eutopian fantasies from a lack of real world experience. As people get older they tend to become more realistic, although there are always exceptions to the rule. Their little minds aren't fully formed yet and they're easily brainwashed by socialst/communist teachers and Hollywood. They don't hate America because of President Bush, they hate American because it's not socialist enough for them.

We should use Reagan's "Just Say No" slogan about the current US administration and neocons.

Ironically, that slogan was about drugs, maybe you should put down the crackpipe.

So, what's your point? Old people grow up to be conservatives? I guarantee I'm old and experienced and I'm as LIBERAL as they come... I think people should do--fuck, smoke, injest, and speak--just about anything they want provided it does not threaten the public safety:thumbsup:

BTW Reagan was the best protege for modern conservatism, but he was the protege of the late Barry Goldwater... and ole Barry died a libertarian, scared shitless of the right wing nut jobs currently running the show

"If at 20 you're not a liberal, you have no heart. If at 40 you're not a conservative, you've got no brains." -- Winston Churchill
The heart is great and all but it can also mislead. The trick is to find a middle ground where brains lead and heart fuels the passion.

I'm actually closer to the libertarian philosphy on most issues but as a wise man once said; "Democrats are the only reason to vote Republican." -- Thomas Sowell

Anyone that votes Republican these days is voting for Jesus in their government... if I have to vote Democrat to stop that then so be it.

(See how that works more than one way?)
