I think it is fundamentally misguided to concieve that the only true reality is right in front of our eyes. I do however completely agree with your notion of a memory of oneness with God. In fact, I believe of all things in the universe that a constant oneness with God exists. It is only the types of boundaries we draw and conceptual applications that stop us from seeing this all the time. God is everything, you me, this keyboard, all of it i just made of God. We are fragments of the ultimate reality: God. Now "God" is just a name I like to use for it. Buddhists call it "the Void" hindus call it "Brahman," in the Koran there is a passage that says "In the end, when there is nothing left but truth, all that shall remain is the face of God" that makes sense to me even though some other stuff in there doesn't. Christianity alike believes in a reality more profound than this one after death. But, I also believe in reincarnation, these lives are lessons for us, and in the eternity of our soul's existence, this lifetime is a millisecond. We will be back, rest assured, and hopefully we won't always mkae such a mess out of the world.
