I'm searching for an answer to the age old question, "Does size matter?"
What is the ideal hight to change plants to flowering? Does it vary by plant?
I have Big Bud and White Widow going... I let them get bigger than I probably should have (like 5 feet tall). Can I expect to get significantly more bud from them than I would with a smaller plant?sundaytoker Reviewed by sundaytoker on . the main factors...
1. Light/wattage...
2. number of plants
3. room...
and finally the LAW..
Indoor growing at its maximum potential rarley calls for growing a plant more than 12-18 inches in vegataive stage.... especially when using lights of less than 1000 watts...
of course there are reasons to grow plants bigger indoors... the main one being... JOHNNY LAW... JOHNNY has a limit on how many plants yuo can grow legally...

example, you can grow 100 plants in a 4X6 area.. that you flower at 10-12 inches tall, using 2400 watts and harvest 5 pounds...
or you can grow 2 plants that you flower at 24 inches tall in a 4X6 area with 1000 watts and get 12 ounces total..

I don't understand knowm.... what does the wattage have to do with what height you flower them at? I don't get what you are saying.

Well, no one really understands GK, but he may have been referring to the fact a HID only penetrates about a 1/3 of the plant so you got over a foot that aint even gunner get light... I dunno, but you need a good lam p to actually bud a plant that big.

I see. So if one is in that situation, one can hang cfl's in/around the plant to help during flowering. Yes?

yes. Don't listen to Lip. He's reading and repeating what he reads. No experience.
Garden Knome is one of the best growers on this forum.
a 1000 watt HId lamp penetrates 3 feet. So it is a waist to grow a plant bigger then 3 feet. And it will hit every part of the plant.
But if you do grow it bigger. You can add side lighting that will take care of it.
Noone mentioned the strain. This makes a h8uuge difference in how much it will stretch in flowering. Indica stretch the least. Sativas get about three times the size when flowered.

Lip see if you can button it, and grow some to back up your lip. You have
posted some good articles but also you have given out wrong info, often
enough to mention it.

LIP is good but we're not here to judge people i mean everyone is intitled to their own thoughts and opinions but back to trh question, i think that idk if this will help you but obviously if you grow larger you will get a larger yield, but people are limited for space, stealth, money so forth so if you're in it for selling and have the ability to then grow big if not then stay small, try and get a few more plants in there so you get more bud from many plants. Try using a LST approach or using a Screen like in SOG to get more bud per plant. I've read and heard that you shouldn't start to flower unless you get about 4-5 nodes then you should flower after you reach that

Ya,I'd wait till more like 6 -7 nodes and pre flowers. But if it is getting too tall you can do it early.
I just get tired of typing. And having to correct him.
But also it confuses people.
But I guess I am making a big deal out of nothing.
I'm sorry.
