Actually I found that our chain of command cared for us a great deal. They were soldiers just like us with families. So when you put out there the impression that our command doesnâ??t care for us and that our lives are viewed somehow expendable than you would be wrong.

Yes, a lot of fucked up shit goes on. ITâ?ťS WAR. Donâ??t talk to me about fairness unless youâ??re willing to apply that concept across the board.
You might see some low ranking individuals who saw it as a way to get a free ride. But you donâ??t see Marines who are past their first enlistment who are fuck ups.

I have a friend in the army he's in Afganistan right now. He did it for his country and all that patriotic stuff. He says the money is NOT worth it.

Without a war going on, the money is definately worth it. With war, it's most certainly not worth it. I almost went into the navy. Good pay and I'd be sitting on a boat playing pack man while some grunt marine was checking for landmines or something. I told the recruiter I wanted a year off to 'train' before joining. Even though I allready passed the phys-ed test (If you can tie your shoe you're pretty much up to par for the navy). I ened up finding a local job, settled down and got married so no navy for me. I do have a few friends in the service. One is a guard in the Army, the other is a tech in the air force. I've yet to meet anyone other than a marine who actually thinks we should be in Iraq. Everyone I've talked to says it's a piss hole.

Marines do what they are told to do....period...don't do what your told to do in a war zone and someone will take care of you. That is how it is....as far as being blood thirsty. Maybe some....do you have any idea how hard it is to fight an urban war? Do you think you can disguish between enemy and non combatant? They have to... everyday... and these guys are 18, 19, 20, 21 marine riflemen... just doing what they are told to do...by their seargent...who is told to do things...by his leutinant...who is told to do things...by his Captain...who is told to do things by his Lt Col.....who is told by his Colonel....who is told by his Brig gen...who is told by a few more generals...who is told by Rumsfield...who is told by George Fuckin Bush. Don't blame some Marine Corps riflemen for shit....they are just doing what they are lawfully told...punishable by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It is Fucked up but it is the way it is.

Brit Army is 3 years minimum , but if you go in at 16 they don't start counting till you're 18
, the max is 21 years and then you retire with full army pension.
It all depends on which regiment you get as to how much you can learn and advance, REME is IMO best.
