Well, your grow is 6 foot tall, minus the high the plants need to be away from the HPS.

I think veg untill 1 foot, then flower.

this is very important AND WILL ALLOW YOU TO GET THE ULB CLOSER TO THE TOPS OF YOUR PLANTS.. THIS IS VITAL FOR LARGE DENSE BUD GROWTH...

    ooops caps lock.. LOL

It really depends on how many plants yu are growing under that 400 watt bulb and what strain...

If you are growing 1 or 2 plants you can let it get a bit taller.. maybe 20-24 inches...

If you are growing 4-9 plants then maybe 12-16 inches tall...

If you are growing.. 10-100 plants.. flower then with 3-5 nodes (6 inches tall)

As long as the light isnt burning the top of the plants you can have it as close as you like, but make sure that its not too hot

Well since this will be my first grow i´ll go for the cheapest 10 seed packs in the market maybe Skunk#1 or Blue Mistyc (input on the strain is welcome ), so i´ll probably try 10 seeds straight away...my space is 6h-8w-4.5w, i was thinking on veg on 4 feet 6400k fluro and then switch to the 400w HPS...what do u think???
