Having A Gay Time In School

Having A Gay Time In School

    By: Bill O'Reilly for BillOReilly.com

Here's some sobering information: According to a National Election Study, 25% of Americans aged 18 to 24 could not identify Dick Cheney as Vice President of the United States, and 63% of them could not find Iraq on a map of the Middle East.

That might be because 80% of the younger set in America do not own a world map and therefore 90% of them could not find Afghanistan either.

In the face of that depressing situation, the state of California is taking action. Earlier this month, the state senate voted 22-15 to prohibit textbooks or instructional materials that "contain any matter that reflects adversely" on persons because of their ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

In addition, the proposed law would mandate textbooks include the study of "people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, (and who have contributed) to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America ..."

In other words, California kids might soon be studying Gay 101.

Even liberal newspapers like the LA Times and the Sacramento Bee think this legislation is dopey. The Times is lamenting that books would recount history, in part, through a gay and lesbian "prism."

The educational madness in California is part of a secular strategy to de-emphasize academic discipline in the classroom and replace it with an imposed worldview of tolerance and diversity. No longer are facts the primary focus in many public school lesson plans. Now, it's not what you know, it's how tolerant you are.

As a result, ten percent of California high school seniors cannot pass a statewide exit exam that requires just 60% of the questions be answered correctly. And the student gets six tries to pass the test. Talk about tolerance.

But don't fret. A California judge, Robert Freedman, ruled the test unconstitutional because all schools are not equal, and therefore, in Freedman's view, the test is unfair to some students.

Since it is impossible for schools to be equal, there always will be variables like the proficiency of teachers and principals; that would mean every standardized test would flunk constitutional muster. Thankfully, the California Supreme Court recognized Freedman's lunacy and overturned his decision this week.

But Judge Freedman and his supporters are not going to go quietly into the night. The future of America's public schools may well involve deep-sixing academics and creating a student body nourished on the achievements of homosexuals and other minorities. Was Columbus gay? If not, some California kids might never know who discovered America.

The left continues to scream about the great economic divide between wealthy Americans and everybody else. Do you think this insane school situation is going to cure that? Many affluent parents will take one look at the California public school landscape and immediately put their kid into private school. There, he or she will be forced to learn the three R's instead of the three T's: Tolerance, Totalitarianism and Total Failure.

Thus, ten years from now, we'll have adults who'll know all about Liberace, but can't count. Meantime, the private school graduates will be counting all their money.

I'm sorry if this column doesn't sound tolerant. I want all good people to be respected in America. But the "progressive" forces running California are creating an army of young Americans that will not be able to compete in the worldwide marketplace. And that is absolutely the straight story.

I agree with you on this Torog..and people can flame me if they want and I mean no disrespect but why aren't morals and values being taught? Along with where our Service Members are in the world? Guess being pc is more important..at a price of course and what does that mean? California is going to change History to fit their agenda?

i don't see neo-con 'republicans' doing jack shit about our soviet style big government unconstitutional education system...

until you get the feds and state government out of education, kids will continue to be morons...that's the plan, it's the deliberate dumbing down of america...they actually want kids to not learn...the no child left behind bullshit is to make sure that kids aren't learning or they are learning the common lie of history.

    www.deliberatedumbingdown.com

just wait until the feds start picking your kids' professions...on our way to the soviet/nazi dictatorship.

have a map handy and ask the next moron who wishes death and destruction on people halfway around the world who are no threat to you where iraq or iran is...

I don't get in to label names really but this crap is exactly that crap...may be why so many young adults have records now..so many different laws being enforced that takes their voting rights away for life..makes sense now...they like it though piss..try and educate a younger adult and see what you get..either attitude or indifference..lets not forget superiority either..so this means they will know how to live among different strokes for different folks theme but not how to use a globe/map? I thought it was the parents place to teach these things? Not the School System?

Education in this country has really gone down the shitter.Especially here in California. The problem is more with the parents and their values than the system, however. The California exit exam is a perfect example. I see all these parents screaming about the fact that their kid won't be getting their high school diploma. None seem to be concerned with the fact that their kid doesn't possess the knowledge needed to get it. All they care about is the damn piece of paper, not what it represents.

I do agree that our kids be taught to accept and respect others regardless of their race, religion, or sexual orientation. I do not think, however, that they should be taught about ""people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, (and who have contributed) to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America ...". Actually, let me re-phrase that: I think they should be taught about people who have contributed but I don't think they should be given a label of gay, bisexual, etc.

If a person has done something signifigant, that action is what is important, not their sexual orientation. It's wrong to leave them out of the history books because they are gay. It's just as wrong to point out the fact that they are gay. It really shouldn't matter. In my opinion, if you are trying to teach acceptance, saying something like "that man is gay, but that's ok" is counter productive. That statement just says that there is something different about that person and the fact that it should be accepted means that others don't accept it. If others don't accept it then there might be something wrong with it. No sense planting a seed it you don't want it to grow.

 You just said what I have thought but couldn't get it quite right on paper..That is a great way of explaining that issue..thats why I also think affirmative action is outdated now..it is saying that others are at a disadvantage because of sex and race..which is not true imo..I see some abuse aa..and I have seen the majority do it the old fashioned way and earned what they accomplished and contributed to society..smart people..and do not like their race and sex being brought in the mix. Great post Fenzgi. Its like when I was in school..we were asked who our hero was..excluding parents..I don't believe one "entertainer" was mentioned..it was normal people that made a difference for the world..my pick was Jonas Salk btw..now its 50 cent, britney etc...not saying they are wrong but what have they really done for the survival of the human race? yep..thinking hard this morning...one more thing..parents need to step up and stop passing the buck imo.

I read about this a while back, it's pretty unsetteling. Especially the part about being PC about minorities in the text books. How do you depict the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the spirit of the Civil War South, and the Communist witch hunt eras of history by being politically correct about every detail?

It's impossible; you'd have to rewrite history.

Exactly..the Civil war history being taught and has been for years now is basically being taught on emotional levels (pc'ism) instead of actual history..myths and lies to support pc'ism. People bitch about the Federal Gov..well maybe if folks had paid attention after the war when Lees wife Mary tried paying the taxes on Arlington and the Feds refused to take payment so they could have Arlington..Gen. Lee had to fight for 4 years to get back what was the Souths but even after winning back what was his..there were so many soldiers buried in the "national" cemetery that the Gov. paid over 100,000 to buy it then..nice way to start the U.S. of America...bunch of bs.

How about instead of wasting money on things like ..... the so called war on terrorism why not put this money into education and maybe you might have some hope in having people with knowledge.Thats just shocking how they couldn't identify the vice president or point out where Iraq is on a map. That is truely appauling. :smokin:
