I took "synthetic" mescaline tablets a few times many years ago. It was very much like tripping on acid, but more physical, and with a lot more visual hallucinations.

Some of the scenes in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas nail the experience of this type of laboratory-made mescaline very well.

I doubt that it's manufactured anymore, at least not in the U.S. Although I've never tried peyote, I'd guess that this would be similar - and probably better. I cannot take anything that might get me sick, so the "real" mesc from peyote is not an option for me.
