Random letters is definitely the way to do it I think, otherwise it's too easy to pick out the difference.

On the other ones, once your eyes focus on the first letter, then your eyes decipher the pattern and you see them all at once after the first

Im sure there are different patterns of letters and numbers you could use that would blend right and make it very hard to find them....
