They relax, and gather energy to keep going when the lights come back on, thats why i say its best to veg under 18/6.
It's also how a plant flowers, it measures the time of uninterrupted darkness, at least that what i think

yes they build up energy in the dark period but ive found this is only in the flowering phase during veg they dont need to do this imo.thats why ive always used 24/0 during veg as you get more growth.people who use 18/6 during veg will argue this but i have grown both ways in veg and imo the plants grow better 24/0 than 18/6 but as i say its each to their own.the postman.

Not sure about the plant gathering energy. It's debatable.
Lip hit it dead on with your plants measuring the time of interrupted darkness. Basically, the dark cycle releases flowering hormones in your plant that cause it to flower. Any sort of light whatsoever makes the flowering hormone become completely dormant again.
Harddon recommends 14/10 for flowering, and I must say that it makes sense and I'll be trying it very soon.

i use 11/13 myself after 2 weeks of 12/12, this allows the plant to finish on its finishing date. like grim said during the dark period the plant releases hormone whick promotes flower growth, this one is the reasons ur turn ur fans off during the dark. also if i find if u leave ur plants in the dark for the last 3/5 days before cutting the will bud out like mad is a last dying act to produce seed . IMO the produce flowers at night and use the light during the day to produce new veg growth.
i am probably wrong but with my own grows i found these thingsif ur living on a prayer... ur living on your knee\'s..... no fear

They all are girls and they sleep close together so I assume they are very close friends probably with benefits too.
