    is this right?

ok i made a box about 4 ft by 2 ft and 3 ft high to start seedlings in and veg in it also. ive put a 4 ft 40w flourescent strip light on the lid and i fitted in 4 light fittings all linked together powered by 1 plug each with 20w cfls in these are in each corner of my box ive put 9 northernlights x bigbud seeds into pots in a propagator they have all come through but im wondering ive just read another thread and someone wrote keep the lights within about 4 inch above the plants canopy is this right and should i do it? also would these lights be enough to veg until i have some room in my cupboard cause ive 2 white widows just a week from harvest and i wanted to get an early start ready for my next crop

yes. That light will work for the first week or so.
Put the light as close as you can without touching it.
Thats how you grow with Flouros.

and after the first week?? i got a 250 hps and a 400 hps the 400 is for flowering and the 250 isnt being used at the minute but i tried to put the 250 in this little box before with some cuttings and some seedlings that where about 3 inch high and it just toasted them theres also a fan in the box keeping things cool

in my opinion, if your cabinet has the room for four-foot flourescent tubes, you would be much better off to go that route ... I believe the tubes are much better than the CFLs, in several ways: lumen output, dollar value, evenness of light, and less heat to the plants ... keep them 1" above the plants ... I've been using fluorescent tubes to grow for about 28 years now ... get the 'Cool Whites' for vegging, and the GE 'Kitchen and Bath' for flowering, found at any walmart, etc... :smokin: I'm running twelve tubes now, this morning I caught my plants wearing sunglasses ...

its 4 foot but because of the wood on the inside of the box i have to put the floro diagonally so only 1 would fit thats why i added some cfls to get more light to my little babies maybe i should make a new box and use the tubes as u suggested hmmmmm thx for info im still a noob to growing but these forums help alot people here have so much info

dont feel bad, I'm a piss-poor excuse for a carpenter ... I built my box 4' long ... had to scab in a couple more inches to make room for the lights .... duhhhhhh ...
