USE CFL FOR STRINGY STEMS?
I was stupid enough to use a CFL and a INCAD for light early on, and now I have very stringy stems. I just bought a 70W HPS and more CFL, and I was thinking I should turn off the HPS for a week or so until the stems get stonger? Should I ? Then turn back on the HPS. There about 10 days old and barely salvageable at this point...But I think there savable.

How stretched are the stems?
If they're more than 3 inch, kill them, and start again with all CFL's.
Make sure they are close to the plant, very close, within 2 inches, and amke sure the fan is on the stems to make them strong.

USE CFL FOR STRINGY STEMS?
THANKS. There getting stonger now....put a bbq grill to add co2...oh, dont worry, theres a gas detector in the next room. Gas grill, only for about 15 mins every couple of days. There deeper green now. And stems are turning purple and stiffer. I think they where about 3 in, but I buried them a little and they are def going to make it now. new leaves darker green, stiffer stems. I put a bunch of CFL and a 2 tube 4 footer next to them (like almost touching them) and there inside a HPS dome. Like about 1 inch away, but its ONLY 70 watts so dont have to worry. very cool. I think its going to work.

lip you wouldnt kill the plants if the stems are 3 inches long, you would bury it in the soil more. or and more soil around the stem. (YOUR NOT HIM.)

USE CFL FOR STRINGY STEMS?
my freaking hps is fucking up, I think the wire is loose. I have only a 70 watter, is that useless? What do I need to do? Should I move the plants into sun during the daylight? Its not like anyone is going to notice these tiny babies. I do use alot like 2 4 footers and um, 3 cfl. all right up close.

USE CFL FOR STRINGY STEMS?
Stretching in very young plant isnts a main problem. Train it, and shift your error in an advantage.
About lighting, if you can use 4 ft floros, the 70w HPS have little use, its influence area is very short. You can try to go adding more floros (note that reflectors are esential when using any kind of floros, tubes or CFLs).
