is Internet suitable to find new friends?

Hey guys: question...

If the intention of this community is to bring people of the same interest together (by that i mean drugs of course ) and hoping that people find other people to whom they can relate, does that mean that Internet IS suited for making friends afterall?

I always think of people who visit datingsites and friendchats and stuff (and maybe even communities) as rather sad... Not being able to make 'normal' friends. Or as people who pretend to be really cool, while they are NOT cool at all in real life. Is this community different then, and why? Or are we just all a bunch of sad losers trying to find people like ourselves, not knowing if the person on the other side of the world is indeed the shroomloving person he says he is...

I think we all came here in the same common intrerest and there anre no posers of weed users on the site. But I agree to the online dating thing, thats just desperate, even chat rooms are based on sex. Dude , wtf. Let compy nerds be comp nerds, live your life.

I believe that the majority of members are genuine to an extent im sure theres a few exagerations but thats not different than real life. Making friends is something completely different than dating. In terms of internet dating...thats when you know your really digging deep for possible matches.

I have a relative that has done the internet dating thing a few times... And not to be mean, but she's found the oddest wierdos i've ever be introduced to. I believe that people CAN find suitable dating partners that could lead to more...but those are all long shots.

Ive met people who I have met online...and all of them have been very nice people....I get quite a good idea if people are genuine or not if I chat to them a bit..

I dont really try to make internet friends if I dont plan on meeting them....unless of course they share the same interest and we chat from time to time...which I think is a good thing really....like here
allows you to speak to people from different cultures that you wouldnt normal have the chance to chat to like we do here.

and to reply to 420mory's original post, i have met many ppl here who i consider friends, some who have helped me in many different ways, but i don't let that interfere with my "real life" or my "real life friends"... but.. alot of my friends are busy with work and families and such, so posting here and talkin in the chat room fills my otherwise "boring" time.. in other words, i'd rather spend my time chatting to ppl from all over the world than to just sit and watch tv and become braindead.. that answer any questions?
