Cool Tubes Vs. Cooled hoods...

I am thinking about using cool tubes in the future. And what I was wondering is how many lumens do you lose threw the glass tube compared to a regular cooled hood. Is it the same.
I heard the cool tubes lose more lumens.
But that sounds like bull to me. Because it seems like you could get a cool tube really close. Like inbetween the plants. And standing upright and connected together. Fuck it I'm going tubing!:thumbsup:
Still would like to hear anyones opinion who used or uses them.

i own a cool tube that was bought from Better Grow Hyrdo, with a squriell fan. It works great. My 1000w MH is about 14 inches from top of canopy. Before temps would be like 100F at like 3 feet away, now it stays a nice cool 79F...worth the money and when i ordered it i asked which cools better and he also told me the tube...so i hope this helps!!

Just make sure you get a big enough fan to pull the air through.... i.e one with a 6inch duct port

To answer the question I'd imagine that air cooled are better simple because you don't need the extraction fan at all. Also while on the topic does anyone use fans and have issues with the noise or airflow. Steps they have taken for noise reduction e.t.c..

They build mufflers. But I have a 465 cfm fan and it is super quite.

The hoods I'm using now are are cooled. They belong to Zandor. Thx Z!
I hooked up my fan to one light. And it stays so cool under this light. It blows my mind. 76 right under the light! The plants are loving it. Growing the fastest I've ever had MJ grow!
Cool Tubes it is then...I think if your using more then one light. Cool tubes are way more efficient.

By muffler you mean silencer. Silencers are almost a metre long. All the fans i've seen even fans in shop that people say are silent are noisy as fuck. I duno why people say that these fans are quiet when the airflow sounds like a gale which is more than noticable if placed near a wall, you can hear the air flow and cool running through solid brick walls and through solid brick roofs so your version of quiet running is very different from mine. Used in a wardrobe these fans make a fucking racket enough for the neighbours to say 'what's that humming' and in my opinion that is not quiet running. What other options are available for people who want to use the smallest extraction fans in very small enclosed spaces and want serious noise reduction. Even pc fans are noisy in very small grow rooms.

Your fans should be PUSHING air into the cool tube... not pulling it out.

The loss of lumens you hear about jdog is if there is no bat wing or reflector to direct the lumens from the top of the bulb (if you hand it horizontal)

Hoods have that reflection point and cool tubes don't as a normal rule. You can add a bat wing to them though.

The loss through the glass is not a worry either with either light setup.
