Well, I heard ole Neil put her down.

His Buffalo Springfield stuff kicks ass. If you like psychedelic ballads you got to get their 1967 album and listen to â??Expecting to Flyâ?, one of the greatest songs ever written.
By the way the guys in Skynyrd were Neil Young fans, they just had a friendly rivalry going on. They were often seen with Neil Young T-Shirts on in concert. The song â??Alabamaâ? (quoted above) was written in response to Youngâ??s hit Southern Man.\"Free the people from their \"leaders\" - leaders suck - all power to all the people freedom means free everyone!\"

Even more useless Skynryd trivia: The name Lynryd Skynryd came from their high school gym teacher- Leonard Skinner. Apparently they hated the guy and did it as a joke.

Neil Young also wrote a song called "Alabama" at about the same time.
Oh Alabama
The devil fools
with the best laid plan.
Swing low Alabama
You got spare change
You got to feel strange
And now the moment
is all that it meant.
Alabama, you got
the weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back.
Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh Alabama
Banjos playing
through the broken glass
Windows down in Alabama.
See the old folks
tied in white ropes
Hear the banjo.
Don't it take you down home?
Alabama, you got
the weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back.
Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh Alabama.
Can I see you
and shake your hand.
Make friends down in Alabama.
I'm from a new land
I come to you
and see all this ruin
What are you doing Alabama?
You got the rest of the union
to help you along
What's going wrong?\"Free the people from their \"leaders\" - leaders suck - all power to all the people freedom means free everyone!\"

Here are some people/bands that actually contributed to music:
Hank Williams *Senior*
Marty Robbins, especially his work on "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs"
Patsy Cline
Buddy Holly
Chuck Berry (got to see him play once. OMG!)
The Velvet Underground
Johann Sebastian Bach
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Marvin Gaye
Sam Cooke
Bob Marley
Peter Tosh
Jimi Hendrix
I could keep going, but I don't have to.
BTW, Eric Clapton and the Beatles suck, too.
