playing chess stoned just makes it more creative, while at the same time making it more difficult to think ahead, its a give/take situation.

Well, the whole thinking ahead thing is the reason I don't like playing. I hear though that the patterns of the game become easier to see the more you play, so you don't have to think as much and it's more intuitive.

My problem is I usually can't get into feeling competitive. It just ends up seeming pointless to me.
