    Mother in the off-season?

I only grow indoor 6 months out of the year and I had a question about growing a mother under such circumstances:

If I grow a mother, how can I keep it alive and without it growing too much during my off season?

Also, could I do the same with clones, where I take clones in the off-season and get them ready to really grow and flower them months later?

    Mother in the off-season?

you could grow a mother and keep it small by chopping it down when it gets too big like ya would take a clone from it
you could keep the clones or chuck them your choice

If you grow a mother in the off season.. using a couple CFL's, you can just keep cutting her back.. or make clones from her....

Clones can be kept under CFL's in rockwool.. for 3-8 months...

They will start to look really bad.. but they will snap out of it and become awesome once you plant them...

you can even transfer them to larger rockwool cubes.. this give them a new zest for life and increases their holding time..

all they really need is PH balanced water and light.....

and for prolonged periods... they may need minor minor diluted nutrients..

    Mother in the off-season?

I keep my mother in a 2sq.ft. cabinet...
It has three 42watt CFLs on top (fourth one is turned OFF).

I give her Brita filtered water with very, very weak 20-20-20 nutrients. And I mean VERY weak... or she just, GROWS!

For some wierd reason, my mother has "miniaturized" her leaves... ALL her leaves are "miniature" now.

My clone's leaves where also miniature... but, as soon as the hydro started growing, they went back to big leaves.

    Hope this helps man...

    Mother in the off-season?

just turn ur light cycledown to 15/15 and only feed every 3rd or 4th watering . with floros u can keep ur plant really at any height u want . cutting her too much will stress her and the clone u get will be weak and will not root easy . if a plant is recieving enuff to veg it doesn't have to grow upwards but instead it will grow outwards. using the light and cutting down the feed also makes sure that ur clone are also lower in N with isn't a bad thing when ur wanting them to root as N only promotes green growth and u don't want this when cloning( u just want yer babies to put their shoes on , not do their hair ). from time to time u'll find u'll have to top her a bit but nothing too much . i have a hindu kush mother for about 18 monthes now and shes only got to about 3 foot max height.
    Hope this Helps

    Mother in the off-season?

    Hmm...

Okay, I believe I'll start a couple of mothers a month beforethe season starts again, sex the plants via the clones once the season starts and decide which mother to keep.

    Sound good?

    BTW, 2 more questions:
    1) Is ventilation a big deal for mothers?
    2) How big should a mother get before you start taking clones?
