You can leave the jar closed, but, especially with newly harvested plants, the moisture buildup from lack of air circulation can lead to the very real threat of your buds develo ping mold, which, can almost always be hazardous to the lungs.
Any pot exposed to excess moisture, especially when freshly harvested, can lead to a mold risk that you don't want.
The basic principle is to let it dry openly and then store it in airtight. You can't neglect it after that. The easiest advice I can give yo u i s to bust out the buds that you are curing everyday and admired them. This provides your containers with proper air cycling and proper exposure to the atmosphere. Never let it be too wet. Too many pathogens and degrading micro organisms like mold and fungus flourish with the presence of excess water, expecially in humid enviroments like closed jars with wet weed.
We're dealing wi th an all natural product, here. I t never stops changing as long as it exists, even if it is dead.
