It should work just fine. Make sure that all the air must go through the carbon and not leak by the sides.

I was thinking that If I had sort of small register going to the attic and mounted below the register have a plasic strainer. Sort of like those little sand strainers that come with a kids sand bucket. In this I would make tea bag sort of things out of dryer sheets and carbon that you get for fish.
