Well, stopping power of a bullet is determined by caliber and placement. Folks have died from a single .22 round, folks have survived multiple .45 rounds. At a forum I go to, a guy was just relaying how his father (a cop) shot a guy with a .357. The round never penetrated the skull; it simply broke skin, travelled the back of the skull, and exited. It's all about shot placement.

i have had this debate on multiple forums
the fact is

a .45 is 5 times more powerful
than a .25auto colt.
i will take a .45 any day just for the sheer stopping power
now in some instances it is overkill
for instance a .44mag

i have shot one of those
it almost twisted my wrist right off
and put a hole the size of my fist in a concrete barrier
only the entry hole
but still
powerful
and pointless unless for hunting
but that chart must be inaccurate cause it shows that 9mm is more powerful than .45

well i dunno.. but this kid isnt a liar... and i have heard about it other places
STC's apparently did it
all i know is i went to a range, and my uncle who was a military weapons expert had ballistics gel and concrete blocks and shit
and we tested 177 hmr, .223, .22lr, .25, 30.06 .32, .38, 9mm, 7.62 short and long, .45, .40, .44, .357, 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 410 and .50BMG (not desert eagle .50, browning m2 .50) at the military range.
the .25 caused less of a cavity then the .22 and they were both hollow points
it actually pierced right through. and left a small cavity behind
the .50 put a 1.5 inch wide hole in it, no cavity variations, and just went right through.
the .45 was perfect, a JHP fragmented inside and just fuckin tumbled through, the FMJ created a cavity that peaked at 2 inches then went out the other end.
the 12 gauge with 00 buckshot fired from my own mossberg did the most damage, it actually ripped apart some of the gel.

and the rifle rounds performed surprisingly well, piercing an inch of steel and still goin through to the ballistics gell
the shit we had was clear tho, not that yellow shit.
and i got to fire a .50!!
this was last summer tho.
uncle got mouth cancer since then.

yep, Sig sauer pistols fucking rock. i love them. rock solid. but, till the day i die i will dream of a .45acp 1911 Ithaca. or a kimber =)
