I have been trying to understand where the fear comes from, by smoking the salvia directly. I think that it must activate neurotransmitters close to the fear circuits somehow..

With a good positive attitude and experience these fear symptoms can be basicly defeated with ones own willpower.

You might be right that it is just a sudden ego loss, resulting in confusion and panic. Interestingly enough this is also what makes it so great..instant transcendance

Oh werd? That's actually pretty sweet then. To reach ego loss and not have to go through it for 8 hours like with shrooms but to go through it for only 5-10 minutes which is worth it and the next hour feels like pot doesn't it?
I'm experienced with ego loss and enjoy it, so this means I can handle salvia?
What extract should I start with if I'm already experienced with shrooms? I'm thinking of going with 10x just to be sure. But mainly cause I'm a cheap bastard :P

I am just smoking 6x now... 20x and 30x consistantly terrified me (the only way i found to get around it was to wait until about 3AM and go outside and chill with the trees..using this peaceful method i found i could consume 30x with no problem. might not work for people afraid of the darkk)

..just feels like everyone is suddenly against you, like paranoia but more basic, like a reptilian fear complex? aAnyway 10x would be fun to start off with yea! Its fun too, especially combined with weed or a light hallucinogen

The fear you get when you smoke salvia is fear from trying something new. fear of the unknown, fear of what will happen to you, fear from the natural instinct of self-preservation.

The fear is natural - so is getting over the fear. If you don't get over the fear THEN there is something wrong.

Euphoric you might be on to something with the fear nerotransmiters, cuz there really is nothing to be afraid of cuz you know it will all be over in like 10 mins but I was still scared out of my fucking mind, but then again it was my first and to date only expiriance with psychedelics, other than pot.

It basically challenges you concept of reality and how youve seen the world all you life.

My friend and I were talking about our first salvia experiences Saturday. We called the deep salvia trip The Frontier, because it felt like the very edge of sanity and reality itself. The ego idea is a good concept.

about the fear thing, i have found with others that there is definitely an inexplicable 'sinister' feeling you get after even the first hit of plain leaf. that is why i can never force myself to go any further, usually, i just get tweaked out by the pulsing sensations and the ominous, 'threatening' feeling like salvia is about to do something wicked and evil to you if you're not careful.

however i think the best way to think about it is, that salvia is just messing with you. it's like it is waiting to see if you get scared off before realizing that there is nothing to fear. there is no physical harm, and the mental effects are what they are, so you just take what you want from it. salvia is kind of fucking with you, but is waiting to welcome you into its world, if you're willing to trust it. the experience itself is just there for what it is--in itself harmless--salvia is testing you and kind of laughing at you because it knows it can't hurt you, and yet your impulse is to 'run away' from it as if something is wrong.
