    Root balls/Cloning

Ive been around growing most of my life ive worked with my dad who owns a nursery/landscaping business and ive picked up a few tricks here and there first of wich is when i start my grow i usually use smaller seedling crates to start then transfer about 3-4 weeks after they have established a good root ball when you start your transplant and you take the plant out of the pot and see the smaller roots winding around the ball a bit its a good idea to cut those a few places around the rootball so that the roots grow outward instead of growing around and around this supports more root growth and takes the chance away the the roots will grow around and round initially choking the plant

ive also found out that when you start cloning after you have cut and used hormones that sand works better to start roots on a clone just keep it wet and theyll start sooner than soil or anything

ive done this numerous times and have tried various other ways this seems to be the easiest and shows better results for me

no pics ill try and get some together i basically use 4x4'' 4x4' with a black tarp with about 4 inches of sand nothing short of a sand box with a dome i use sometimes, made from landscaping grade plastic and 1/4 dowel rods shaped into domes to cover it its not neccesary but it holds in alot of humidity that helps

the sand being so loose i put the clones about 1/2'' down and after roots appear i just take a pencil and scratch softly to bring the sand away and so far i havnt had one plant go into shock bad just watered and a hour or so their perky again

    Hey Sixes...

With the clones, do you basically dip in rooting hormone, stick a pencil in the wet sand, drop in your baby, and sprinkle sand to keep it there... Any drainage involved here, or just a box with wet sand covered up?

Also I can imagine that you could use a tupperware box like for under the bed style on this with a layer of sterilized play sand from home despot.

What I'm interested in is the drainage... If there is, pantyhose over a drilled out to shit (tiny holes) tube would be just fine.

Can you fill in the details on this idea.

    Thanks
