In fact, avoid heating all liquids in the microwave. Because the liquid heats up so fast, it doesn't boil even though it has passed that temperature.

It is not dangerous until you disturbe it. All that energy will get released. It will shoot out exactly like you describe.

Apparently the purity of the liquid has something to do with it, but if you suspect that the water is superheated, let it cool down. Sprinkling anything into it at that temperature will trigger a violent reaction.
