it got the name Marihuana and was made illegal by the big companies in the US... can you believe they gave money to the government to get what they wanted... I could never imagine a business being able to pay the government to get more money.

But, it was companies like Dupont, Big Oil and GE who wanted to get rid of Hemp because they knew it was the cheapest and best crop anyone could grow and would cause them to make less money (hemp lasts longer and grows better than hemp, you can make 8 times the amount of ethanol and many many other things.

After that other drugs took a foothold in america and that is when the US came out with the 'war on drugs' which they took to the UN and spread it around the world. They weren't the first and only, but for sure the biggest bully on the block and forced a lot of people to go with them...

but it was only for power and money.. somethng anyone can look into more...
