    Why is IRC access forbidden???

Hi , i just want some clearance about the fact that IRC access was taken from the cannabis.com chatserver a few yrs ago...
for me this is quite a big problem , not only because i don't like java , but it simply doesn't work properly for me and other ppl (for most it does , cause they use internet explorer ) but i (and a few others ) do not run Windows as operating system,
i came here like 2 or 3 years ago also , (when it had both IRC and java access) and i've allways liked this place and the ppl who came here , since this place got java-only , it continuesly fuks up everytime, wich means:

i can not copy and paste a link in chat , i can not post a decent smiley , sometimes i can't even type/post a message in the chat at all , and it's really going way too slow

this is pretty much the problem of Mozilla and other browsers different from IE, due to the fact that i (and a few other friends of me) run OS's like Linux or MAC , are we not capable of running 'microsofts internet explorer' and the IRC has allways worked for us , cause IRC is better supported by other OS's than java is ...

i am not asking to change it all to IRC , cause i know some ppl still prefer java over IRC , i just don't understand why IRC got blocked , i'd wish to see both java AND IRC available again , this way also friends without windows can come here and chat...
it worked also perfectly a few years ago , why stop the service then ?
i hope to see some reactions on this , cause due to this java-problem , chatting aint very kewl anymore ,and that's why several ppl left also , a few years ago ...

i just request IRC access back for better chat possibillity's for those who do not run bill gates's shit (winblows) cause life got really harder for those who are chat addicted , and loved this place , but don't run windows...

    Greetings From Holland,
    Hashja.

    p.s.
Please forgive me my ignorance and spelling mistakes , as you can see , i'm just a dumb foreigner

IRC is on the way out. It was designed back when the net was a totally different place than it is now.

Many web-based chat server programs no longer even support IRC.

In regards to the Java chat ... Java needs to be enabled along with JavaScript (Active Scripting) in web browser.

And also connecting may take upto 5 minutes - especially for dialup folks; don't open any other windows, etc during loading.

Lastly, there is a possibility that some folks don't have Java on their computer - we are working on a help page to direct folks without Java to a source where they may download it.

or even www.java.com will take you to the Sun Java site (for those who are in the industry, it sucks. for anybody who doesn't know what Sun brand Java is, it works perfectly). If my tequila-addled mind recalls properly, there is a large yellow button in the top-right, that says "Java Virtual Machine" among other things. fairly easy to do, although it may take aboot an hour on dialup...

From fear of getting booted by admins, I usually do not contridict them. However, in matter of IRC, it is no where near being 'on the way out.' In fact it is still a large part of the net just as message boards and usernet groups are still a large part. Hell, almost all chat programs are based on the principles and theories that have arisen from IRC. Website based chat programs have deep roots in IRC. In fact, an IRC chat room ( or channel) can be moderated and controlled far more effeciantly than any website based chat program I have used. Hell, most web server chat programs I have used still support connections from IRC clients. IRC is most definatly not on the way out.
