gang members fighting in iraq
yea guys.. I joined the military in Jan of 2001 to see the world and get a free college education.. little did I know what was only a few months ahead in our countries future. There are some retards in the military but most people in the service are good people. The ones that act like assholes like in the first post are the ones that normally dont come back from over there (my exp) but that is not to say I think it was just in any way.. just sad.. But the likelyhood of those type of people ending up anywhere other than jail, prison, or the military was.. well.. not that likely.
Give our boys some slack guys.. Im from TX and serving in the military is pretty sacred here.. almost my whole family has served and I have had a family member in the service for every war since back to the colonial times. Our government does suck at times and people in the military do do stupid shit.. but remember that we still have the number one government and the number one military.. and least of all blame the guys who are getting shot up in iraq for you to sit at home.. You cant even imagine how that changes a person or how it would change you.
I am in college now.. free except for the 6 years of my life that it cost (supposed to be 4 but they kept me around and forced me to serve 2 extra years since we were at war).. and I can tell you that I HATE the people that did that to me! It is a very dark side of our government and although I am a republican more or less.. I think that M. Moore did portray the vast difference in the people who decide what the military does and the military men themselfs. Its a sad truth.. most of our military came from and continue to live below the poverty line.. But you and me get to sleep at night without worrying about bombs going off or nuclear war.. I have been to places where you cant say that and it is a completely different existance.
The next time you meet somebody like me that served PLEASE thank them.. and understand the BS they went thru!
Oh and drugs in the military are like a death sentance anymore.. not really.. but if you sell your buddy half the dime bag you picked up in town you can expect to spend the better part of the rest of your life in Levenworth Penn.. NOT WORTH IT.. any mil member will prob agree.. it would be like if the penalty for J-walking was 20-life and you knew at least one person doing the sentance (I knew a few!).. You would walk your happy ass to the cross walk.. at least untill you were out of that situation..
Fun fact tho.. the first round of troops at the beginning of the war were mailing home RPGs and AK 47s.. They caught on and inspect all outgoing packages now.. but it goes to show that our boys in blue still never miss an opportunity to bring the good stuff home!!

Well said, Aaron385. Despite all the media attention on undisciplined troops, the vast majority are learning the lessons of a lifetime. The military doesn't train or tolerate punks. The system and culture teaches self discipline and teamwork.

Aaron385, thank you for what you're doing for our country and for expressing yourself so eloquently above. I wish to goodness our country had never gotten into that conflict in Iraq in the first place, but I don't have a moment's hesitation in appreciating the young men and women who are over there doing that brutal, dangerous work in Iraq and all over the rest of the world, too. We love you guys and value your sacrifices so much. My heart breaks for how frightened and worried all your parents must be. Take care, fellow Texan, and thanks again!
