    Going dry

Ahhh, now has come the time for me to dry out a little bit. My wife and I will be doing In Vitro Fertilization and are getting ready to go meet the doctors (this is our 3rd time trying IVF). So in preparation, I'm letting things dry out a little biit....but after tonight, LOL!! I had a nice mellow weekend and still have about 2 more bowls. So I'm going to finish that off tonight, maybe a little resin, and then put the pipe down for it's cleaning. But fear not, I'll still be around and still am looking for some stash to 'squirel away' until this is over and I can go back to smoking. Wish us luck!!!

Thank You!! We're hoping so also. This is going to be our third time. The first time resulted in a premmie and his lungs just weren't developed enough to live. The second was twins, but they developed some sort of defect. I can't even begin to spell the name but it was basically that the skulls didn't completely form so they had to be terminated. So we're praying that we've learned all that we need to and this will be the time.

You're right, it is not cheap at all. Luckily, my insurance completely covered the first two times. With this try, our infertility dollars are maxed out. But we found a center over here in Irving that apparently does it at a reduced rate if your insurance doesn't cover it. So we're trying them (Irving Reproductive Center @ Las Colinas) and today I was fairly impressed with their operation. So I don't have any reason to doubt that it won't work this time. But we'll see.....eyes, ears, toes, fingers crossed!

Glad to know about the name of that clinic. I'm in the Dallas area, too! Wow. Small world. My little sister and her husband are going to look into IVF next. They're been doing fertility shots for about two months, and I'm not sure how long they'll give it with just that and trying the old-fashioned way. Anyway, I may tell them about that particular clinic because I don't think their insurance is going to pick up any of the IVF attempts.

Wow, so sorry you've already been through two losses already with it. I really do have my fingers crossed on this next try. Babies are awesome! We'll stay in touch here on the boards because I want to know the latest. . .

Thanks. IVF is definately a test of patience. Basically your sister and husband have alot of appointments to look forward to. In general, they'll test for diseases and defects. Next they'll test the husbands sperm and do an examination on your sister to check the health of her reproductive system. As long as everything is kosher, then starts the meds. Usually it begins with birth control and some other med to help stimulate the release of eggs. Then starts a series of injections (in the belly) that helps the folicles that surrond the eggs to mature better. These injections go on for about a month or so. She'll then go back where they'll check the number of eggs and 'harvest' them. They'll also collect the husbands sperm and begin to mix that with the eggs. Several days later, they'll do the actual transfer and put back at least two healthy embroyos. As long as that is succesful, she'll go through another series of injections (in the behind) that help to feed the uterus and make it strong. As long as the embroyos implant and continue to develop, she'll eventually be released back to her OB/GYN for the rest of treatment. It's an enduring process.

But if your sister and husband need any info or doctor reccomendations, let me know. My wife has become an expert on fertility and IVF and has amassed alot of resources.

Yep, they've already been through all the "examinations" and have even been through about six months of trying with just some drugs to make her ovulate more. Now they're embarking on IVF. The path seems clear for both of them physically, but she's a little old to be getting pregnant without help, the doc said. I'll let you know if they're interested in doc recommendations. The whole thing makes me glad I had my son back when the old-fashioned way alone worked! Now I wish I had had more. I want a lot of grandchildren someday, and I think he's going to be like us and be more preoccupied with building his career than starting a big family. In retrospect, I see that's not what matters. . .

    It's in-vitro fertilization--in order to have a baby.
