    hydro rocks

I just started my first crop with hydro-- I used lava rocks as my medium but - i was smoking and thinking last night that why do you need the rocks if you water frequently so the plants keep wet. I am using 4 inch rockwhool

does anyone know why you cant not use the lava rock and just have nute water filling an drianing every 3 hours.

    No support for the plant.

If the root ball is not supported then the plant will not grow very large. The yield will be much less as well.
