The rest of the worlds thoughts on bush
"1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. (We will control the space industry.)"
Federally funded. You would control nothing as they would just move it.
"2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States."
Yep, and if the rest of US ain't buying it, you ain't exactly selling it are ya? As if new refinery's could not be built.
"3. Defense Industry. (We have over 65% of it.) The term "Don't mess with Texas" will take on a whole new meaning."
Again, federaly funded. The term would soon change to " don't mess with Texas 's empty factorys and warehouses". You seem to think you will just keep what you have there, and still be able to fund it. Something tells me your not thinking this through very well.
"4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee states? Sorry about that."
I hope ya can eat it also. Better not have any floods or droughts, ya know what I mean? You won't be getting any federal funding for anything, so your oil will have to cover a lot of expences. Who will you sell it to?
"5. Natural Gas - Again we have all we need and it's too bad about those northern states. John Kerry will figure a way to keep them warm.... "
I guess without the great state of Texes there just ain't no reason to be here at all. LOL! I have a natural gass well on my land in KY. Coal also. Say, do you guys have enough coal for your electric plants? It might get a little dark down there if ya don't.
"6. Computer Industry - We currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications: Small places like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Semiconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, Etc, Etc. The list goes on and on."
Yep, and they would all up and move right out of Texas if you told them they could not trade with US. Either that, or they would soon be pushed out of buisness by their compitition from the US.
"7. Health Centers - We have the largest research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world and other large health planning centers."
So does the rest of the states, so what! I would imagine after the mass killings and expulsions in the new kingdom of Texas that most of the doctors would have fled or been asigned to the new government in some orwellion fashon. I doub't your medical care would be as good as it is now.
"8. We have enough colleges to keep us going: U.T., Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT, Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the south anyway."
I wonder how many of the students and teachers would hang around for the kingdom of Texas?
"9. We have a ready supply of workers. (Just open the border when we need some more.)"
And you can solve our illegals from the south problem at the same time. Not a bad deal there.
"10. We have control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc."
By god if they don't make it in Texas, it ain't made. LOL! Your control, if you even have any, would evaperate so fast you wouldn't even know what happened.
"11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don't have an army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an army in 24 hours if we need it. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over a couple Texas Rangers."
Everyone has at least 6 guns? No shit? Hmmmm, that's intesresting. Raise an army in 24 hours? I'd like to see that. Bodys and guns don't make an army. Training, expirence, and control does. You would have no control over a army of rednecks called up in 24 hours packing six rifles and a pile of ammo each. It would be a joke, not an army.
"12. We are totally self sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables and let's not forget seafood from the gulf. And everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food."
I wonder how much federal funding your farmers and ranchers get? You may want to look into that some.
"This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have."
You really should think about what your saying a little more.
"Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President Kerry will be able to drive around in his 9 mile per gallon SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes."
We got a refinery right here in Denver. Oil wells here too. Kansas has the same. No problems here with needing your gas. More can be built if we needed them. How will you feed all those jobless oil workers?
"You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off your communications."
I sure would like to know why you think the federal government would leave anything like NASA there. It's like saying the US would leave nukes there. Yep, that's what would happen for sure, right? Who would fund it? What you don't seem to understand is that you have no way to force them to leave it there. If you break from the US, you break from everything federal. No more funding, no more anything from the feds. They will not leave you a thing. If you think Texas can be nasty to the rest of the US to try and get whatever it is you think you would get, you better think again. Your plan to be nasty would plunge your new kingdom into poverty and oppression. Your labour would rise up against the capitalist system abusing them, and socialism would take over.
"You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Kerry has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas."
We have plenty of gas without yours. Your kidding yourself if you really think Texass is that importent to the survival of the US.
"Signed,
The People in Texas"
Wow, you speak for the people of Texas? No shit? What are you like the govenor or something? I don't think you can get much support for your quest. I'd be willing to bet money that most Texans don't feel the same as you do.
