About the School of Civil Engineering at The University of Sydney
The University of Sydney, Australia's first university, was established in 1850. Civil Engineering has been part of The University since 1882. The School is world renowned for its work in the areas of structures and geomechanics, and is continuing this work today in these and other new areas such as project management and wind engineering. The School was home to many distinguished Professors, such as WH Warren, WA Miller, JW Roderick, EH Davis, D Campbell-Allen, NS Trahair, and JR Booker.
Research The research interests of the academic staff of the School remain quite diverse and successful, as evidenced by our success in nationally competitive research grant funding. We have major strengths in areas such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and environmental geomechanics, risk analysis, materials, concrete structures and technology, construction and project management, fluid mechanics and wind engineering, and ocean technology.

Learning and Teaching The School exhibits strength in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. We offer undergraduate degrees in either Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (with specialist streams in Structures, Geomechanics, Construction and Environment) as well as the new Bachelor of Engineering (Project Engineering and Management). At postgraduate level we offer Diplomas, Certificates, Masters and Doctorate programs, as well as an on-line Project Management Graduate Programme.

Consulting and Testing Services The expertise of our staff is much sought after by our profession.
