    Pale Color with Pics

    hi,
my friend has two plant in the same container and are about 3 week old or so.
one has germinated few days before the other. the color of the older one is not as green as the younger one, the color of the younger one is more dark green, while the older one is more light green, they both seem healthy and new leafs are comming up.
they are under two CFL, 42 W each (approx 400w of normal bulb), with an extractor fan blowing next to them.
also the first leaves of the older one are dying or died as can be seen from the picture
    any suggestions,
    thanks and great site.

Is there soil in that pot?

I suspect a PH problem is coming over the horizon very quickly...

    Tell us about your meduim?

smaller plant is to light and is already shows signs of stunted growth..

a transplant may solve your problems...

becareful not to over water.. that is the biggest problem with new growers.. they love their plants to death..

Young plants in a soil/perlite mixture at 70 degrees farenheit, 3 gallon pot , need about one , 1 gallon watering every 5-10 days... this means you water your plant thoroughly and then let the soil dry out a bit.. the reason: your roots need moisture and oxygen... you don't want to water everyday and drown your roots..

and finally, those CFL's should be CLOSE!! like 1 inch from your plant..

    : )

he is using a mixture of peat and very little compost.

next week he will be getting a ph tester, what is the ideal ph level?

he does not over water, he waits for the mixture to dry, as you can see from the pictures and then waters about 100 ml every 5 days or so.

will the soil that is found in the forest be ok instead of commercial peat? and instead of perlite use cat litter (those little rocks). shall he use compost too?

    and thanks for everything.

15 days ago my fried transplanted the plants to a bigger pot, the plants started to grow like crazy,
2 days ago he decided to seperate them in two different pots. while transplanting he noticed that the roots were a little bit tied toghether and carefully separated them.
one of the plants still looks healthy but this one doesnt, any suggestions?

don't overwater... thoroughly (at least 1/2 gallon) water and the let the soil dry.. don't water agin until the top 2-3 inches of your soil are dry...

for a soil grow.. ph should be 6.5 - 6.9..

transplant shock can often stun a plant.. it can take 3 days to 3 months to recover...

    keep us posted

yes... 6.2 is fine for now...

he should actually not worry about the soil and adjust the water instead..

here is a simple water tester..

He should AIM for 6.8- 7.0
