Where abouts in N. Carolina? I lived in Cary, just outside Raleigh, but only for a year when I was younger.

That "shiny shovel" comment won't win you any praise from Daima. While I'm inclined to agree with him, I have known a few stupid people who have done stupid things with snakes and gotten bit. If it really is a you vs them situation I can't fault you for killing it. Snakes do have their purpose though so just letting them be is always the best move. Always carry a good long walking stick when hiking in snake country. Use the stick to shoo the snake away. They may strike at the stick but they will go away. Plus, as I'm sure you know, the adrenaline rush is awesome. Anyhow, dealing with snakes is the same as dealing with a bear, mountain lion, etc.- Keep your distance but stand your ground, act agressive, and never turn your back and run.

Stoned and looking for rattlesnakes Man, I love the summer time Lots of hiking, smokin and exploring Today was very warm and I decided to take a short hike and see if I could find some rattlesnakes. Unfortunately, I didn't see any but I did see a nice lizard and a coyote on my walk. I took some pictures and even did a few self timed pictures of myself. Late Rating: 5
