Eastern Diamondbacks are really gorgeous snakes. The coloration and pattern is awesome. From the time I was 10 to 15 my family lived in Florida, right on the edge of a big plalmetto grove and very close to the swamp. I must have seen hundreds of diamondbacks, some were huge. Much bigger than the smaller rattlers we have out here in Cali. Lot of water moccasins too and every now and then a coral snake. Back then my dream was to be a herpatologist so it was like paradise for me. Never saw a copperhead though, too far south. You must be up around the Carolina's, right??

Yeah im in N. Carolina now but I just moved her about a year ago. Im originally from Virginia(Afton, Shenendoah valley area). I'd only see the rattlers up in the mountains. Copperheads more down in the foothills. they made a nest underneath our garage. One day I stepped over there to take a piss and almost stepped on one. I was wearing birkenstocks and the copperhead struck the copper buckle twice before I could even move. man I was lucky. I guess I don't need to tell you guys what happened to him( lets just say it involved a very shiny shovel)

Where abouts in N. Carolina? I lived in Cary, just outside Raleigh, but only for a year when I was younger.

That "shiny shovel" comment won't win you any praise from Daima. While I'm inclined to agree with him, I have known a few stupid people who have done stupid things with snakes and gotten bit. If it really is a you vs them situation I can't fault you for killing it. Snakes do have their purpose though so just letting them be is always the best move. Always carry a good long walking stick when hiking in snake country. Use the stick to shoo the snake away. They may strike at the stick but they will go away. Plus, as I'm sure you know, the adrenaline rush is awesome. Anyhow, dealing with snakes is the same as dealing with a bear, mountain lion, etc.- Keep your distance but stand your ground, act agressive, and never turn your back and run.

lol friendowl. Im in Charlotte right now Fengzi. hopin to move back to Virginia towards the end of this year. I really miss those mountains. I know where you guys are coming from I have never killed them for fun only when I felt threatened. I don't kill black snakes or gardner snakes.

I used to live with my grandparents who have now passed on but they were in their late 80's so whenever I came across a poisonous snake/spider in or around the house I killed them for obvious reasons.

Anyway in my experiences more often than not when you come across a snake they are just as surprised to see u as u see them and will bolt.

True, snakes want to see us a lot less than we want to see them. I'm always amazed at how many people are terrified of snakes, any snakes, poisonous or not. I've always loved them I have a habit of picking them up and moving them off of trails, for their own safety, if I see them. It really freaks people out. I was mnt biking with this guy who was an ex-marine and pretty hard core. He was a bit in front of me and when I came aound the corner I saw he had just stopped. There was a pretty small gardner snake sunning himself on the trail and my friend wouldn't go near it. The guy, ex-marine don't forget, nearly shit his pants when I walked over and casually picked it up. LOL. I won't even begin to describe my wife's reactions when I do it around her. Worst thing that ever happened was that a snake pissed on me once.

I know exactly what your sayin. I used to work for this guy(construction) who was in veitnam with 50 some confirmed kills and also an undercover cop who rode with the hells angels in the 80's. Anyways you couldnt get him in the woods or near a stream/pond during the spring/summer. scared him to death just thinking about snakes, but during the fall he was in the woods all the time hunting lol acting like a tough guy.

Sillly me. What was I thinking? Have respect for others, live and let live. Ha! KILL AND TORTURE THE PLANET there now do i fit in?
yeah...gotta say im with euphoric on this...

you killed a rattlesnake just cause it was rattling at you? thats a pretty scummy thing to do. all you have to do is back away and it will slither off the trail and you can continue. the fact that that animal had to lose its life just because you were "scared" and it was in your way sickens me. if you dont like the animals, stay out of the woods.

but yeah, to the guy who STARTED this thread, rock the fuck on, i love just going out hiking, smoking and enjoying nature. respect dude.

There you go making assumptions. I love animals. Especially deer tenderloin on my plate mmmm scrumptious. I will not stay out of the woods. I love to hunt and I don't like poisonous snakes or spiders. If they get in my way I will continue to kill them. You seem to forget how humans got to the top of the food chain. It's not from singing koom bay ah and eating tofu. It's from MURDER.
