The HPS security light at the home depot, whether it's 150w or 200w (do they come in 250?), is the same that you would get from any hydro retailer or any do-it-yourself kits.

I know 150 watts and below you have to put the kits together yourself unless you can get it at home depot (with few exceptions). 200, I think is the same also.

So really, its more about what wattage you want to use than anything else. So if you want less than 250, then see if you can find that wattage in the security lights, or you have to get a do-it-yourself kit.

If you know of a hydro store that sells the full 150w ballast & bulb (that's not in a kit), then please tell me...but I havent EVER seen one.

If they come in 250w, and that's what you're looking for, then you need to compare the difference in price along with if the security light has a good reflector....If I had to outright choose based on quality, I'd definately go with a 250w meant for plants as opposed to the security light. The differences are probably very negligible so if it's a $100 difference for the same wattage, I would probably go with what's cheaper (security lights).
