I think most street lights are Metal Halide.

lol you must be thinking of the new street lights that are bright white
i remember thinking that the old ones that glowed orange and red were hps lamps lol they do look the same when looking at them have ya eva seen the actuall bulb they look quite similar with a screw fitting
