As of February 21, 2006 the supreme court ruled that the government cannot persecute those who use any Schedule one drug for religous purposes. Besides rastafarianism here is a judeo-christian religion that focuses on plants. Specifically Marijuana. According to the site, you give them a donation of $100 and they send you a membership card that you can present to law enforcement if caught with marijuana. Similar to the way Medical Marijuana Card works in california.

yup I have been thinking about it and I am joining this week hopefully. I will get all my friends to join too. that way If I were to grow some weed they can get it legally off of me also. If they werent a member then they cant get any from me.
do you think a member could sell to other members legally???? If not then I would give it away I dont need the money

people read the bible to better understand god but they can't read the bible if nobody sells them one (most people anyways)
people that use cannabis religiously use it to better understand god but they can't if nobody sells it to them (again most people)

but then there are always the lucky ones that get it for free be it a bible or cannabis or anything else for that matter

No, they've already decided in the courts that drug laws are exempt only for religions which used the drug before it became illegal. Besides, it isn't really that interesting for atheists, who are excluded from this organization:

thats the legal case, i skimmed through it and i didnt see anything to do with marijuana, i saw mostly peyote and herbal hallucinogen tea stuff but thats it...the temple420 forum looks kinda sketch tho, it only has 9 members lol =/

ok so in conclusion...if a memer of temple420 and stopped by the po, will you be arrested?. aeronaut as usual said something about if the religion was created after the drug was made illegal, it wont work...

Yeah, the reason they make exceptions for spiritual use of drugs, if I remember correctly, was because some Native American tribes fought for their right to use peyote spiritually like their ancestors had for thousands of years. The government then decided that the Native Americans could have their peyote because of freedom of religion, but they also knew that just letting anybody use any drug for religious purposes is essentially the same thing as legalizing all drugs. They're not stupid. Well, not that kind of stupid.

So yes, you will be arrested even if you claim it's religious. Just ask the Rastafarians (who for some reason aren't allowed to take advantage of the same freedom of religion clause as the peyote-eating Native Americans).
