Growing Opium Poppies?
Does anyone have any experience with growing Opium Poppies? I am interested in knowing the difficulty to grow them indoors and an idea of yield for each plant. I heard they only yield .5-.75 gram per plant of opium.

Growing Opium Poppies?
Yeah man,I know about some poppies. If you're thinking of growing them I can help you out.Ok,First, you need to aquire some good seeds, and I got a little secret for ya,hehe.I've heard much debate on growing the mccormick brand of poppy seed, and let me tell ya,they are very potent.Just go to your local wallmart,or any grocery store for that matter.Go to the spice isle, and get the mccormick brand poppy seed, they are used for cake muffins bagels, you know?So anyway, find you a good sunny location, with good soil, you could also work in manure, and some good potting soil mix,and scatter the seeds. They key,is to plant other flowers and vegetables with them,so they don't draw attention.Water them, and make sure the ground stays moist for a week, and you'll have thousands of little sprouts.Water them good untill they get a few sets of leaves, and viola opium poppies for almost free.Put it this way,you get 37 grams of beutiful, blue, potent opium poppie seeds for about 3 bucks, from the mccormick brand.Or you could get them online, and get the same seeds for triple the price.I'm gonna borrow a digital camera a snap a pic for ya,I planted a whole bottle, and came out with a good frew thousand seedlings.Oh,and they do grow pretty well indoors too.Use high pressure sodium lights. They work the best.I grew some of the best poppies ever with them.Only draw back is,you better have a lot of space, because it takes a lot of plants to produce a significant amount of opium.PEACE

Ok man, sorry it took so long, but I got somthin to show ya.Theese are Mccormick poppies grown indoors under flouresent light.I know the pics suck, but what can you expect for a 15 dollar digital camera, hehe. So theese are only a few weeks old,and very bushy and green.I'm tellen ya people theese are the real deal holy field.Mccormick is a number one spice company, you think they are going to use any old run of the mill poppy?Of course they aren't.Mccormick uses tasmanian poppies, one of the most potent strains.Hopefullt they won't read this and switch, but seriously folks, grow Mcormick poppies you get quite a few grams of seed for around 3 bucks. They are a very potent plant. All mine have been.I'll post pics of my outdoor patch tomorrow,as it puts these to shame.PEACE

I have found that poppies can grow to adulthood in a 20 oz plastic cup. you can put like 4 per square foot. with 4 or 5 poppies per plant that equals out to 1 gram of O per square foot. also I think they need less lumens than cannabis. I bet 1 1000 watt hps will cover a 10 by 10 foot area. hmmmm that equals 100 grams of O

They take roughly 3 months or less to flower, and once the petals drop, wait for a week or so,and then slice the pods for your opium,it's rather tricky at first, but then you get the hang of it.PEACE

or you can just cut off the pods and make tea with them so you dont have to worry about slicing them and getting busted.
as for outside growing.....
I havent tried that yet because the light cycle for poppies is reversed.
12/12 for vegatative growth and 24/0 for flowering
it is easiest to control that indoors :-)
one more thing I barely gave them nutes at all this run "maybe once or twice a weak veg solution" and they were in pro mix
