Smoke yourself straight?

What exactely is this? I've heard the term before but never really knew what it was, although I think I've gone through this.

There have been times (especially on a rainy day) where I'll just smoke non-stop...like a bowl every hour, on the hour. Eventually, I'll get really lethargic and just veg on the couch somewhere. But then, I'll all off a sudden 'wake up' and almost feel like I haven't smoked at all. I'll smoke more, but it doesn't have nearly as much effect until I sleep it off. So is that an example of smoking ones self straight?
