The new Tool album is a joke.

    Like I said.

So yeah. I still don't understand how they managed to become so mainstream, though, even though they're my favorite band.
lateralus Reviewed by lateralus on . The new Tool album is a joke. Please, the band doesn't want you to support this album... download it and hear it for yourself. Listen to the grand scheme... It's literally a joke, isn't it? I mean, it sounds like it... it's abysmal. Especially for a Tool album, it's REALLY bad. And Vicarious sounds like Schism reversed... gay. If you buy this album, you're not Tool fan... you're a Tool fan boy, and the band doesn't like you. The best part of the album is the mantra chanted during Intension and that's the only part Rating: 5

For me? The first song I heard was Lateralus on the radio... loved it but didn't catch the name. Then saw Parabola on MuchMusic and loved it... didn't even know that both songs were from the same band.

Bought Lateralus... bought Aenima then Undertow and finally Opiate. I am not picking up 10,000 Days though... not because I think it sucks... not only... but also, cause I'm sick of paying 25-30$ for a CD.

I like the new album. Sure lateralus is my favorite, but 10000 days is up there with it. I don't know why people waste time bashing music. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Thats one of the reasons I don't read reviews, because no one is me and I probably have a different opinion in every aspect.

so what im sayin is. CHill the fuck out, check your expectations (and your ego) at the door
I am a classic case of having ZERO expectations and fucking LOVING this song! I haven't listend to the whole album yet - I can't stop playing The Pot over and over again, I think it's so amazing - I have never really listened to Tool much before, but that's about to change. My husband agrees with most of you and thinks it sucks, but it totally blows my mind.

Also agree - I should have probobly just downloaded The Pot but I'm so glad I bought the actual album - the packaging and art is so cool. I like Pearl Jam's album art too, still a reason to shop at record stores>

The best part of the album is the mantra chanted during Intension and that's the only part that seems to have any thought put into it... well, it all seems like it does... but it's quite funny... if you know the Tool FAQ well enough, you might notice all the contradictions in this "10,000 Days". (LOL)
I notice it feels like it really lacks any sort of energy, imo. Ane, Under, and Lat felt charged and there was something cool in the way they made the music... 10,000 is a bunch of overplayed notes for songs... Little to none of the innovative sudden tempo changes... But there are tempo changes... That seem added in or developed because that's what they knew everyone expects... or something. Dunno... A lot of the tracks just don't impress me... the whole set just carries a sort of sedated or subdued feel to it. I found myself wondering if they were on too much or too little drugs for this one.

Might be good if I were on heroin all day and didn't want any sudden surprises like good music to startle me, but I really haven't played any of the tracks since the week I d/l'd em all, tbh. I can't say you're bad for buying this album... I can just say that you should have downloaded it, because it gets old fast, unless you're on opium all the live long day... I spent a couple days on an opium bender and I thought the album was pretty ok. Tracks got old even during it, though, imo.

Then again... Some people love everything about it, on the same token... I guess its a polarizing type of thing they did, this time around. Its not that I wanted them to do one particular thing... Some of 10,000 is great and I liked it, just not what I really wanted, if you can dig that.

I like more energy in my music than what 10,000 gives me, here. But, who knows where they are going with it. 10,000 is definately something new, and I still look forward to more Tool. Last verdict on 10,000 would be 'disappointing' from me, however. Then again, it was free.
