Id have to go with gorilla. Only because the way gorillas are structured skeletal and muscular wise they have an immense amount of power. Heck a little 100-120 chimp could tear you limb from limb. Also gorillas have got to have a higher ratio of muscle to fat compared to a polar bear who needs that fat to survive.

If we are talking about putting one of the largest gorillas and largest polar bears in an arena then I would have to put all my money on the gorilla...they are tanks

thankyou for agreeing but if they were to battle it would have to be a fair area i will see about the thunderdome next week but still the biggest polar bear would be so slow the gorilla cause just hit it so many times before the fat polar bear swatted it or bit it

Why would you bet on a 400lb animal vs a 1000lb plus animal? Do you realize that bear can run just as fast as a godamn horse? Their fur hides their muscle and they look like one blob but under that fur they are very muscular. Obviously. We're talking about a 1200lb animal that can run as fast as a horse. The bear would absolutely destroy the gorilla.

A huge gorilla would be 500lbs based on their average weight.

ok then have a bear that weighs the same amount maybe if you cant find one then one on a diet but if they were same weight same amount of muscle it would be a great fight

wtf? I doubt a gorilla could challenge a polar bear much more than I could. Unless the gorilla was highly trained to sidestep and throw in jabs to the kidneys until the bear was sufficiently weakened...

Size and strength vs size, strength, teeth and claws.

This contest would be over before it started.

Chimps have extremely dense bones and muscle tissue which is the best explination ive seen in regards as to why chimps have such immense strength compared to how big they are.....

    Can a 90-lb. chimp clobber a full-grown man?

"It's a lot easier to get a chimp in roller skates than it is to get
him to pump iron--hence, most of the data on chimp strength is
anecdotal and decidedly unscientific. In tests at the Bronx Zoo in
1924, a dynamometer--a scale that measures the mechanical force of a
pull on a spring--was erected in the monkey house. A 165-pound male
chimpanzee named "Boma" registered a pull of 847 pounds, using only
his right hand (although he did have his feet braced against the wall,
being somewhat hip, in his simian way, to the principles of leverage).
A 165-pound man, by comparison, could manage a one-handed pull of
about 210 pounds. Even more frightening, a female chimp, weighing a
mere 135 pounds and going by the name of Suzette, checked in with a
one-handed pull of 1,260 pounds. (She was in a fit of passion at the
time; one shudders to think what her boyfriend must have looked like
next morning.) In dead lifts, chimps have been known to manage weights
of 600 pounds without even breaking into a sweat. A male gorilla could
probably heft an 1,800-pound weight and not think twice about it.

" Chimpanzees have robust bodies and powerful arms (Vaughn, 1996).
Because of their dense bones and muscle tissue, chimpanzees? upper
body strength is 8-10 times stronger than that of humans (Rowe,
    1996)"

What's your point? A full grown grizzly or polar bear can snap trees 6" in diameter with their paws.

I don't think you understand the physics of it. A 1200lb polar bear is going to be much stronger than a 400lb gorilla. Muscle is muscle, the bear could kill the gorilla with its weight alone.
