A passenger who claimed to have a bomb aboard a United Airlines flight was subdued by passengers as the California-bound plane was diverted to Denver International Airport, airport officials said.

Two F-16 fighter jets from Buckley Air Force Base scrambled to escort the plane as it flew into Denver Friday, according to Lt. Commander Sean Kelly, a spokesman for NORAD.

"They followed to make sure nothing untoward was going to happen," he said.

Jose Manuel Pelayo-Ortega was arrested after the plane landed around 4:30 p.m., FBI spokeswoman Monique Kelso said.

Three Secret Service agents traveling between assignments who happened to be on the plane helped detain the passenger, said Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren.

After the A-320 Airbus landed, it taxied to a remote part of the airport where the passengers got off and were bused to the terminal.

None of the 138 passengers or six crew members was injured, airport spokesman Chuck Cannon said. The flight was headed to Sacramento, Calif., from Chicago.

Authorities searched the aircraft for explosives and re-screened luggage and passengers before they reboarded the plane, which took off for its original destination around 7:30 p.m., Kelso said.

^^ dude, American Airlines stopped all their planes on the ground, as did United Airlines (in the 9/11 Commission Report).... you cannot say that it was a different mentality pre-9/11... there are procedures and they were not followed...
think about how stupid this sounds: America, the only superpower, didn't send fighter jets to intercept KNOWN (in the commission report) 4 hijacked flights AND they knew all of them were EXTERMELY off course... i could see that happening in Madagascar... but nope, not the good 'ol USA.

I agree the ball was dropped at the time but it was also due to inflated ego's in my opinion. After all, who would have the balls, or be stupid enough, to do something like that to the U.S. in the states?

Just consider for a second...4 or 5 guys pull out boxcutters and relatively quickly get complete over the plane (lets just say this is the first plane). Now for the military to know there is a hijacked plane they need some sort of contact. Air traffic control would only know that they weren't in radio contact with a plane, they wouldn't know that it was hijacked, so how can the military know for sure whether this plane is hijacked or if it just lost radio contact. They wouldn't really be able to tell anything until the plane started on a different course, but even then they could have no clue what was going to happen and no real reason to have the planes shot down until the first one hit...even after the first one they still can't be sure more planes are going to be crashed so it takes until the second or third crash before real action is taken. And I think it was because I've always believed United 93 was shot down by fighters, not crashed into a field by some passengers who somehow made a conscious decision to kill themselves and everyone on board to prevent crashing into a populated area. Bush did not murder 3,000 people, and believe me I am not standing up for him cause I hate the fucker. My opinion anyone that stupid is not fit for the job...just watch him on TV he makes himself look like an idiot at every conference. But he is not a murdering evil bastard like that cocksucker Osama

Looked at what happened to the flight according to the 9/11 Commission Report...
my findings:
1. when looking at the foot notes.. they couldnt confirm check-in for some of the hijackers... [WTF, it has to be recorded in the computer by the airlines.. that is bullshit]

2. At 8:51, the pilot had his last ROUTINE communication with the Air Traffic Control.
3. Between 8:51 and 8:54, the hijacking took place
4. At 8:54, the "aircraft deviated from its assigned course, turning south"
5. At 9:29, auto-pilot was turned off [???? how can you get off course ^^ while auto-pilot is on] at 7,000 feet in altitude, 38 miles we of the Pentagon [how is it at 7,000 feet right before auto-pilot is shut off if they're going cross country]
6. At 9:34, the aircraft was 5 miles away and did a 330 degree turn at 2200 feet in altitude.
7. At 9:37 it hit the Pentagon.

In the report it says, "Shortly before 9:10, suspecting that American 77 had been hijacked, American headquaters concluded that the 2nd aircraft to hit the WTC might have been Flight 77. After learning that United Airlines was missing a plane, American Airlines Headquaters extended the ground stop nationwide [no more planes can fly]

BUT LOOK AT THIS CONTRADICTORY FINDING BY THE COMMISSION IN THE FOOT NOTES!

and i quote, "There is NO evidence to indicate that the FAA recognized Flight 77 as a hijacking until it crashed into the Pentagon"

In any other hijacked attempt, or even when planes fly over restriced air planes are sent out to look at them... fighter jets are used because they can see what is going on in the sky... they are fast enough and should have been spaced around the US to intercept any plane.

There were also reports of phone calls from all of the planes to people on land... either to 911, air traffic or family members... Flight 93 passengers have plenty of phone calls 'recorded'... by the way since when have they been able to record phone calls from cell phones, how do they know what they said?? when did they record it?? On the cell phone?? cause they used personal cell phones to call relatives... when did this get recorded?? --- but back to the phone calls having been placed, why were there not a single american fighter jet sent in the air... what if 20 planes were hijacked instead of just 4... why weren't they in the air to stop any more... how did they know 4 was it?? Why were there not planes next to every aircraft that wouldn't land??
